Camera Work & Video Editing

Video production has always been my passion and for five years I've been involved in camera work and editing, both in my own projects and as a contributor. I like trying new techniques on a set and experimenting with footage in post-production.

I also enjoy teaching video production, where I focus on the pre-production stage. I'm happy to discuss various production techniques and support all students' ideas: from vox pops and filming 'dreams' on a street, to studio filming and chroma keying.

I work on various types of video camera, from camcorders such as SONY TRV50 and Panasonic SD10 to HDV cameras such as Sony HVR-Z7 and Panasonic AG-HMC151, both hand-held and tripod-fixed. I work on location and in studio, I have experience in lighting, infinite white filming and green screen filming.

In post-production, I'm a professional user of Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro. I use Soundbooth or Audacity for audio editing. I also have a general knowledge in Adobe After Effects and Colour for final touches, and I'm professional in DVD Studio Pro for DVD/ Blue-Ray authoring.

Infinite White Screen for 'Who Are You?' (2011)

We filmed dancing characters on a white background in a TV studio, using Sony Z7. We set up studio lighting to get the best image quality and avoid shadowing. We also filmed several minutes of white, plain background itself for corrections in post-production.

Because the white paper was not wide enough on the stage, we needed to crop it in post-production and paste over the plain white that we filmed earlier. Then we needed to adjust colours and contrasts.

Below is a short video example (it's low resolution example).

Press Conference-like filming for Rod Dickinson (2009 & 2011)

'Closed Circuit' showed in London in 2011, and 'Who, What, Where, When, Why and How' in Amsterdam in 2009, both by Rod Dickinson and Steve Rushton, interrogate the historical form of the presidential speech and government press briefing. Set in a meticulously constructed press conference environment, two actors deliver a simulated press briefing.

I filmed both performances and their rehearsals. In London we Used HDV camera, Panasonic AG-HM151, whereas in Amsterdam we used SDV camera. Three cameras fixed on tripods were used to film the performance. During the rehearsals, we tried different angles and close-ups, following a storyboard. I was responsible of sound recording on my camera. I also helped in stage management and operating teleprompter.

Theater Performance with on-stage multimedia projection (2009)

'Tis a Pity he's a Whore' is a successful UWE Independent Theater Company's performance. The performance was combained with video projection projected on the stage.

I was responsible for production for the projection content (filming and video editing). I developed a unique dream-like style of the videos to highlight flashbacks. I used SD camera and Adobe Premiere.

I also filmed a Dress Rehearsal and the final performance in Redgrave theater in Bristol. I had to consider all the stage lighting and learn actors movement, which gave me a great experience in live-performance filming. I edited the footage in Final Cut Pro, and fixed audio from the final performance.

The final video was made into DVD with DVD Studio Pro, and now is touring around the world.

Below is an example from the multimedia content projected on stage during the perfomance, which I edited. Please watch from 1.27 min.

Innovative Dream-like Style in Interactive Dreams (2009)

'Interactive Dreams' shows actual dreams and aims to create dream-like, surreal atmosphere. So, I developed a special style that is surreal, blurry, obscure, smooth and surprising.

I edited 48 minutes of video in Adobe Premiere, which took me about a month.

I worked with multi-layers in Premiere and clip transparency.

The video is interactive, and clicking on its particular hotspots, you will jump to another part of the video, like in real dreams.

Teaching Video Production (2010-2011)

I've got two years professional experience in teaching video production at University of the West of England. I designed and delivered workshops on pre-production, camera operating (Panasonic SD10), sound recording (Marantz), lighting, production management and editing (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro). I also support student's projects and help to prepare them for a final exhibition. My students demonstrate high technical skills and attention to aesthetics in their projects. they are also well organized and considerable.
